  • Location: The Netherlands is located in Northwestern Europe.
  • It is also known as Holland. 
  • It is geographically positioned in both the Northern and Eastern hemispheres of the Earth.
  • Boundary nations: The Netherlands is bordered by Germany in the east and Belgium in the south.
    • It is bounded by the North Sea in the north and west.
    • It shares its maritime borders with UK and France.
  • Capital: Amsterdam is the capital of the country.
  • Geography: It has three primary geographic regions: The Lowlands, The Veluwe and Utrecht Hill Ridge, and The Limburg Hills.
  • Highest point: Its highest point is Vaalserberg.
  • Lake: The IJsselmeer is a large freshwater lake in central Netherlands.
    • It was once called the Zuiderzee, which was a saltwater inlet.
    • The Afsluitdijk dam separates it from the North Sea, changing it into freshwater.
  • Major Rivers: Rhine River,  Meuse (Maas) River and Scheldt River are major rivers of Netherland.
  • Port of Rotterdam located along the North Sea have historically been crucial for trade and commerce.
