News: The King Fahd Causeway was recently closed following threats of Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
About King Fahd Causeway

- Location: It is a series of bridges connecting the island nation of Bahrain to Saudi Arabia, spanning the Gulf of Bahrain.
- Inaugurated: It was started in 1986.
- Managed and operated by: It is managed by the King Fahd Causeway Authority.
- Length: It is 25 km long and 23.3 m wide.
- It starts in Saudi Arabia in a place known as Al-Aziziyya and ends at Al-Jasra in Bahrain.
- It has two sections –
- The longer section of the bridge starts from Khobar to Nasan Island in Bahrain
- The shorter section starts from Nasan Island to the main island of Bahrain.

- It plays an important role in boosting trade and commercial exchange between the two countries and other GCC countries through Saudi Arabia.
- Strategic significance: It is Bahrain’s only road connection to the Arabian Peninsula and holds strategic importance, particularly as Bahrain hosts the United States Fifth Fleet.
- It also serves as a strategic alternative route during disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the flow of people, essential supplies, and limited commercial transport.
