Facts:
About Lion Tailed Macaque:
- The lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus) are endemic to the Western Ghats of India.
- It is a diurnal animal meaning it is active exclusively in daylight hours. Unlike other macaques,it avoids humans.
- IUCN Status: Endangered
- Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972
- Appendix I of CITES
- Threats: a) Overpopulation b) Habitat destruction and c) Hunting among others.
