News: Malwan, the second of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 31 March 2026.
About Malwan – Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft

- Malwan is a high-tech, waterjet-propelled warship designed for specialized naval operations in coastal and shallow waters.
- Built by: It has been constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi as per Indian Navy specifications.
- Standards Compliance: The ship is built in accordance with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) classification rules, which ensure international safety and construction standards.
- Naming: It is named after Malwan, a historic coastal town in Maharashtra linked to the maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
- Aim: It aims to provide advanced capabilities for underwater surveillance and specialized combat operations in littoral zones.
- Key features
- Dimensions: It measures about 80 m in length with a displacement of around 1,100 tons.
- Propulsion: It uses Waterjet propulsion for high manoeuvrability in shallow waters.
- Weapon systems: It is equipped with torpedoes and multifunctional anti-submarine rockets.
- Sensors: It has advanced radars and sonar systems for detecting underwater threats.
- Operational role: It can perform Anti-Submarine Warfare, Low Intensity Maritime Operations, and mine warfare.
