News: A joint Indo-Argentine Army mountaineering expedition successfully summited Mt Abi Gamin (7,355 m) and Mt Kamet (7,756 m) in September 2026.
About Mt Abi Gamin

- Location: Mt Abi Gamin is a peak located in Chamoli district of Garhwal Himalaya of Uttarakhand.
- It lies near the Indo-Tibetan border.
- It is also known as Ibi Gamin.
- Elevation: It is 7,355 m high.
- First ascent: The first successful ascent of Abi Gamin was made in 1950 by a small Anglo-Swiss expedition.
- First Indian ascent: The first successful Indian expeditions to climb Abi Gamin took place in 1953 and 1955.
About Mt Kamet
- Mt Kamet is located in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, near the border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
- It is part of the Zanskar Range.
- It is the third-highest peak in India after Mt Kanchenjunga and Mt Nanda Devi.
- Elevation: Its altitude is 7,816 m.
- First ascent: It was first successfully climbed on June 21, 1931, by a British-led expedition.
