Prime minister has paid tribute to VD Savarkar on his birth anniversary. He said that the nation will always remember the sacrifices made by Veer Savarkar during the freedom struggle.
Veer Savarkar was born in 1883.Savarkar was an Indian freedom fighter, activist, politician,lawyer, writer and formulator of the Hindutva philosophy.
Veer Savarkar had called 1857 revolt as the first war of independence. He has also founded the Organizations namely Abhinav Bharat Society and Free India Society.
Savarkar was also against foreign goods and propagated the idea of Swadeshi.In 1905,he burnt all the foreign goods in a bonfire on Dussehra.
Veer Savarkar had also founded the two-nation theory in his book Hindutva calling Hindus and Muslims two separate nations.In 1937, Hindu Mahasabha passed it as a resolution.
In 2002, Port Blair airport at Andaman and Nicobar Island was renamed after Veer Savarkar International Airport.
