Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was passed in 1985 to tackle the problem of illegal drugs in India.
- It prohibits the production, sale, purchase, transport and consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances
- The act extends to the whole of India and also in aircraft and ships that are registered in India.
Punishment:
- Penalty for property derived from or use from illegal traffic in narcotic drugs
- Imprisonment & fine depending upon the quantity of crime
