Issue: Two remaining National Statistical Commission (NSC) members resigned

Grievances of NSC members are:

NSC running at half strength and government moving very slowly on appointing new members
NSC has been systematically bypassed in its functions with involvement of NITI Aayog
No consultation with NSC before the release of back series GDP data
Holding of NSC finalized current employment and unemployment data by Government

National Statistical Commission:

NSC was constituted with a mandate to evolve policies, priorities and standards in statistical matters
NSC was constituted on recommendations of the Rangarajan Commission which reviewed the Indian Statistical System in 2001
NSC has four Members besides a Chairperson, each having specialization and experience in specified statistical fields
Currently Niti Aayog CEO serves as an ex-officio member of NSC
