‘Polls, BS VI may hit bus sales’

  1. Daimler Buses India, a unit of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has expressed concern about the growth of bus sector in India. It has stated that Lok Sabha election 2019 and Bharat Stage (BS) VI emission standards would have a detrimental impact on the bus sector.
  2. The Indian government has decided to skip BS-V and directly move to BS-VI from 2020. In December 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that vehicles will not be sold from April 1, 2020. The government has further agreed to advance the proposed date for Euro-VI norms from 2026 to 2020.
  3. The Bharat Stage emission standards are standards instituted by the Indian government to regulate the output of air pollutants from internal combustion engine equipment, including motor vehicles. The norms were introduced in 2000.
