POWER 50 is fifty capsules across fifty days — the entire PSIR syllabus revised once, in the order the syllabus is actually built, one topic a day. Read the capsule, write the same day, don’t break the chain. Running alongside: PSIR Dynamics 2026 (the full-length chapter series) and the PYQ Vault — 560 PSIR previous-year questions over 50 days, approximately eleven a day.

Day 8 — Political Ideologies Part 1

Today’s capsule covers the three ideologies that have dominated modern political thought — Liberalism, Socialism, and Marxism — along with the three great meta-debates that followed: the End of Ideology, the End of History, and the Clash of Civilizations. We move from Freeden’s conception of ideology as a political “map” through Classical and Welfare Liberalism to Neoliberalism and its critics (Stiglitz, Piketty, Klein, Polanyi); from Utopian Socialism through Fabianism and Syndicalism to Social Democracy; from Marx’s Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism through Leninism, Maoism, and the Frankfurt School to Gramsci’s theory of hegemony; and finally to Bell’s “End of Ideology,” Fukuyama’s liberal triumphalism, and Huntington’s civilizational counter-thesis. This is one of the highest-frequency units in PSIR: 15+ PYQs between 2015 and 2024, 4 twenty-mark questions in the last five years alone, and all three ideologies carry direct overlap into GS Paper II.

Write Before the Evening

  1. Comment on “Revolution in Permanence.” (UPSC 2022, 150w)
  2. Discuss the contemporary relevance of Marxism. (UPSC 2019, Discuss)
  3. Discuss the Decline of Liberalism. (UPSC 2024, 150w)

Pick one. Write it. Time it.

If you go blank on a point, it is covered in full in your Foundation / OGP class notes and handouts — revise it, then write.
