Dear Friends,
Corrigendum :
The words of the Honourable Minister “uski taarikh aage karni padegi” has been wrongly translated as “dates to be advanced” in the email to some followers of this blog. The error is deeply regretted. The words have to be read as “postponed”. With respect to authenticity of the Interview, the Interview is given on the Doordarshan News Channel – which is the State Broadcaster and a trusted News Channel. Readers may type below any other translation/interpretations of the speech in the comments below, and we will gladly update it, if found to be a better translation.
This is to update you that in an Interview with DD National, the Minister for Personnel has announced that IAS Preliminary 2020 dates will be postponed. New Dates will be announced on May 3, by the Commission.
Please view the Interview between 23:00 minutes to 26 minutes.
The Minister Said
“For long, through Social Media and other media, many youth were asking Prelims Exam, when will it be conducted. It is natural that till this condition lasts, nothing can happen. There are some studious people who need to make a plan in advance.
Two days back, UPSC with a circular has announced that whatever will happen will happen after the Lockdown. Through your medium, we want to tell the youth that Preliminary dates will have to be postponed. But that decision will be taken after 3 May.
“Preliminary jo hone wala tha, uski taarikh aage karni padegi” ( sic)
Preliminary which was to be conducted. The Date for that has to be postponed. The decision for that shall be taken after May 3.”
You can watch a shortened clip of the Interview below

exam krana h ya nhi, iska btaynge ya date btaynge k kb hoga ,clear nhi smajh aa rha…
date batayenge .. exam to hoga hi agar situation jyada kharab rahi, in case tab postpone bhi jyada karna hoga
Basically 3 may ke baad ye decision lena hain inko ki “kitna postpone karenge”
jitna main samjha hu
exam to hoga mera mtlb tha k exam 31st may ko krana hai ,ye btaynge ya
I think this year 2020 prelim will not
be possible and upsc will skip this year prelim and announce for 2021 later on.
Bcz until corona vaccine come govt will not take any chance for their citizens.
America also close school ,colleges until May 2021……..stay home and be safe…
Ok then don’t study
sukhe evan saste nashe ki chapet mei aa gye bhai tum… bam bhole
Bro ! Calm Down?
Thanks for the update ?
Seriously this is so irresponsible. Don’t make such sensational headings and send emails to students. Things are already very stressful please dont add to the stress by random misinterpretation
Hello, we did this after listening to the interview multiple times. The exact Hindi words are “usi tarah preliminary tha jo pehla, uski tareekh aage karni padegi”
In English this translates to “the Prelims that was to be conducted, its dates will have to be advanced”
Please suggest alternative translation if possible.
It’s sad that some people who actually take help from FORUM IAS OR ANY OTHER COACHING CENTRE’s study materials and tests are using words such as (irresponsible , fool etc.etc.)..
Guys , some of you may get higher posts tomorrow or someday ! But avoid these type of insensitive language for the plateforms who are making your journey easier in some way or other !
?
Guess, Translation will be done considering the “meaning” of the sentence mate! Not word by word. Irony is you are still defending the thing! No offence Forum! We love you!
Advancing here means it is advancing towards later year
Advancing here means it is advancing towards later part of the year
thank u
Which means a paper like 2018 with n number of ambiguous questions to be expected.
Sigh
unless notified by the upsc itself the date remains 31 may, there is no room for speculations
Yes but Statement from the Hon. Minister carries lot of weight
it does, i’m not denying the fact, but still unless upsc notifies it 31st may is the date
Just think.. It’s impossible to hold the exam… Generally there’s a gap of 45 days between interview & prelims..
So do the math on how many days it might get postponed…
My “guess” is atleast 2 months..
With lots of asymptomatic cases all over the world, we’ll take a lot of time to clear…
let’s wait for what upsc has to say 🙂
Honorable minister ‘prelim ki date badhani pdegi” par stress dalkar bol rahe Hain Matlab date badne ka chance bahoy high hai
pdegi = will have to
Suggest Alternative Translation if possible
No offence but How can you be so dumb….he is talking about delaying not advancing …and yes its about common sense not translation ….sinhalese nahi bol raha hai ye …
Minister is saying very clearly “prelim hone wala hai uski date Bhi badhani padegi par uske bare me faisla 3 may ke bad liya jayega aur pryapt(adequate) time Bhi diya jayega. Iska Matlab date badhna taye hai par abhi gov decide nahi kar payegi kiyun ki abhi clear nahi hai ki lockdown 3 may ko khatm hi ho jayega.
Karni padegi ka translation = will/shall hi hoga aur iska alternate nahi hai is context me..
Eating popcorns and reading comments ?
I was thinking
‘How did he purchase popcorns’?
???
Sab log Admin ki bhawnao ko samjho.. Ambigous statements ki to aadat ho hi jaati hain UPSC waalo ko
Send only “OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS”
NOT TV Interview Interpretations.
he said that prelims date might have to be extended but final decision will be taken post may 3 based on situation.
This is basically what the the upsc circular also said.
Hello, “might have to be extended” would require him to say in Hindi “ho sakta/sakati hai”. He has not said that. He has said, ”
karni padegi”
there is no smoke without fire.
try to understand friend….if there were no consideration of advancement of pre dates he would have said let the upsc decide, we eill decide..etc etc.
but as a cabinet minister of specific department he said ..jo pre ke dates hai usko age karne padegi…its clear dude!!!!
and above all use common sense….

Advancing a Date means preponing it. That was a mistake. You dont have to delete your comment 🙁 We made that mistake.
Chalay toh shaam tak, warna chaand tak.
