Key findings of Production Gap Report 2025
- Overshoot of Paris-consistent pathways: Planned fossil fuel production in 2030 exceeds 1.5°C-consistent levels by more than 120 % and 2°C-consistent levels by 77 %.
- Coal is the most misaligned: Global coal output in 2030 is projected to be 500 % above the median 1.5°C pathway and 330 % above the 2°C benchmark.
- Oil and gas gaps remain stark: Planned 2030 production exceeds Paris-aligned limits by 31 % for oil and 92 % for gas.
- Extended timelines for expansion: Governments plan higher coal through 2035, gas through 2050, and oil well beyond mid-century compared to projections made two years ago.
