Work – Key Concepts in Governance
Views
Decentred Governance – Governance is not State-centric Governance involves multiple actors beyond formal government institutions.
Situated Agency – Individuals are active agents who interpret their circumstances rather than merely following institutional rules
Role of Traditions – Actors draw upon inherited beliefs, practices and traditions while making decisions.
Dilemmas create change – When existing traditions cannot adequately address new problems, actors reinterpret them and generate new practices.
Interpretation matters – Policies and institutions should be understood through the meanings and beliefs that actors attach to them.
State is not monolithic – The State should be viewed as a collection of interacting actors and practices rather than a single unified actor.
