Keyword of the Day | Moral Disengagement
It refers to the psychological process through which individuals justify unethical behaviour by disconnecting their actions from their moral standards.
The concept was developed by Albert Bandura and is highly useful for understanding ethical failure in bureaucracy for e.g. official denying a legitimate welfare benefit may blame the rules even when discretionary space exists to resolve the genuine hardship.
