Civil servants are a part of permanent executive branch of Republic of india. The civil service system is the backbone of administrative machinery of india .
However since the colonial times Indian bureaucracy is grapling with problems like corruption and power play. it has witnessed both sides of coin where wrong is done to the civil servants such as frequent transfers and wrong done by civil servants such as bribery and political favors. Such wrong doings emerge from structure of civil services which involves strict hierarchy and political interference in decision making as well as prevailing socio economic conditions where goon culture, nepotism are still thriving.
In such scenario major challenge faced by civil servants is to maintain their integrity and efficiency .This can be done by right training , distance between service conditions and politics and fixed tenures.
To improve efficiency of civil services and to reduce corruption , Prevention of corruption ( Amendment ) act, 2018 is a step in right direction.
