Explanation – BPaL (Bedaquiline, Pretomanid, Linezolid) regimen is a groundbreaking treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). This regimen includes three drugs: bedaquiline (B), pretomanid (Pa), and linezolid (L). The BPaL regimen reduces the treatment duration from the traditional 18-24 months to just 6 months. Unlike older regimens that required multiple drugs, including injectables, BPaL is an all-oral regimen, making it easier for patients to adhere to the treatment. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the BPaL regimen as a treatment option for most forms of drug-resistant TB.
