Explanation – Darfur is a region in the westernmost part of Sudan. It roughly corresponds to the five present-day states of Sudan – West Darfur, North Darfur, South Darfur, East Darfur, and Central Darfur. It is bordered by Chad to the west, the Central African Republic to the southwest, and Libya to the northwest. The region consists mainly of a semi-arid plain, with the Marrah Mountains, a range of volcanic peaks.
