Explanation – An Einstein Ring forms due to gravitational lensing, a phenomenon predicted by Einstein’s general theory of relativity. When light from a distant object (like a galaxy or quasar) passes near a massive foreground object (like another galaxy), the gravitational field bends and magnifies the light. If the alignment between the observer, the lens, and the background source is nearly perfect, the light appears as a ring-like structure around the foreground object. Altieri’s Ring is a newly discovered Einstein ring, found by the European Space Agency’s Euclid space mission.
