Statement 1 is correct. Corrupt practices are given under Section 123 of the Representation of Peoples’ Act 1951. Electoral offences, on the other hand are laid down both in the IPC (chapter IXA) and in the RP Act (chapter III of part VII). The electoral offences under the IPC are criminal in nature, relatable to all elections held under any law to any elective body in the country

Statement 2 is incorrect. Paid news is not an electoral offense yet. The Election Commission of India has proposed it to preserve electoral integrity. Recently the chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra has proposed to include ‘paid news’ in the list of electoral offences.
