Good Morning Friends,
Following are today’s Mains Marathon Questions.
About Mains Marathon – This is an initiative of ForumIAS to help/aid aspirants in their writing skills, which is crucial to conquering mains examination.
Every morning, we post 2-3 questions based on current affairs. The questions framed are meaningful and relevant to the exam.

Questions
1) Differentiate between fission and fusion energy. What are the challenges in sourcing energy from fusion reactions?
2) The Census of India not only helps understand the perils of British rule but also flags the roadblocks lying ahead. Discuss.

Please review and let me know my mistakes

Good answer! You can add some more points like fusion requires high temperature (due to repulsion between positively charged nuclei). By products of fission (those used in generating energy at present) are radioactive, not the case in fusion. If You have science background, You can mention examples of fusion and fission reactions.
Also one of the challenge in fusion (at present) is creating and sustaining high temperatures necessary for fusion reaction. That’s why (at present) fusion reactions are consuming more energy than they generate.
Wrote it as a 15 marks answer.
Good answer. Don’t mention points like timber/forest cover etc. not covered in Census I feel. Same thing goes for school drop during COVID. No census has been conducted since COVID, so don’t include this point. Learning outcomes are not covered in Census, there are separate dedicated surveys for this, so such points are not relevant.
Thank you, I will remember that.
Good answer! You should mention nuclei (instead of atom). Also more points can be added like energy released in the two, presence of radioactivity in by-products, if possible write reactions also.
You can adopt a tabular format approach in such comparison questions. In conclusion, don’t mention COP27/Coal etc. R&D should continue in Fusion, if it becomes commercially viable, it can offer huge amounts of energy.
Looks good! You can also mention trend of gender ratio (overall and under-6), that gives idea regarding status of gender equality and status of women. It can highlight need for corrective steps.
Good attempt. Some improvements are possible. Not sure about the point regarding release of GHGs or use of oil and gas, please share any info if this is so.
In challenges focus more on requirement of creating/maintaining high temperature, material requirements, use of energy etc.
Fusion does not require thorium (it is a heavy element, used in fission), sea water has deuterium (heavy water) which is suitable for fusion.
