2) Discuss the geopolitical implications of the African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member. How does this move position Africa in global politics, and what are its potential benefits for India?
The inclusion of African union(AU) has been long overdue. African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member would strategically position Africa in global politics and have have multifaceted implications such as:
1.The representation of global south would become stronger
2 The representation of developing nations in G20 would become powerful thus increasing the strength of the voices of various developing nations and their concerns.
3.Africa though has less share when it comes to the climate deterioration and certainly pays the price of climate change caused by other nations thus should be given an opportunity to put forward its stance.
4.AU holds a large proportion of world population thus to represent this population ,their presence in G20 is mandatory.
5.AU holds numerous resources used for green energy and sustainable development, which can be discussed and well utilized once AU can represent itself in forums or platforms like G20.
African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member would have various benefits to India such as:
1.The leadership role India plans to play for the global south and the developing nations would be strengthened as India played a very crucial role in making AU a permanent member of G20 thus AU is expected to take India’s side of stances.
2.The fact that India vouched for the inclusion of AU as a permanent G20 member and it was finally executed ,also projects the power that India’s stance holds in the global groupings.
3.Through the constant communication with AU members, India can take benefits of strategic planning for bilateral trades .
In conclusion, African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member would have positive implications for both India and AU and would further lead to strengthening of the bond between the two.
