News: The district administration has intensified relief and rescue efforts as rising Ganga and Ramganga waters flood villages in Uttar Pradesh.
About Ramganga River
- The Ramganga River is an important river of northern India.
- Origin: It originates from Doodhatoli ranges in the district of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
- Main source: Its main source is the glaciers near the Namik Glacier and the Pindari Glacier.
- It rises at an altitude of about 3,100 m in the lower Himalayas near the Lohba village in the Garhwal district of Uttaranchal.
- States through which it flows: It flows from Almora and Pauri district in Uttarakhand and Kalagarh, Bijnore, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
- It is bounded by Ganga Basin in West and South-West, while Gomti Basin in North-East to South-East and slightly touching Ghaghra Basin in upper North- East.
- It flows by Corbett National Park.
- City situated on the bank: Bareilly city is situated on the bank of the River in Uttar Pradesh.
- Total Length: Its total length of River in 596 Km and has a catchment of 32,493 sq. km.
- Tributaries: Khoh, Gagan, Aril, Kosi and Deoha (Garra) are major tributaries of Ramganga.
- Tributary of: It is a major tributary joining Ganga near Kannauj.
- Dam associated: Kalagarh dam (embankment dam) is situated in its basin.
