- Recently,Several heads and Representatives of 20 Election Management Bodies (EMBs) from across the World had arrived in India to witness the ongoing General Elections to 17th Lok Sabha.
- Delegates included a team of Election officers from Election Commission of Myanmar visiting India as part of training programme being conducted International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) under Ministry of External Affairs’ sponsorship.
- IIDEM is an advanced resource centre of learning, research, training and extension for participatory democracy and election management.
- The Institute has been developed in collaboration with the Government of India, United Nations, the Commonwealth and inter-governmental organisations like Sweden based International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA).
- The vision of IIDEM is to fully sensitize, motivate,prepare and mobilize the machinery as well as the stakeholders of elections and democracy.
- Its goal is to (a)To train the electoral machinery in the delivery of free, fair and flawless elections (b)To orient stakeholders of the democratic and electoral systems toward possibilities of better and more productive delivery therein and (c)To explore and expand the horizons of intellectual know-how in these fields.
