Recently, first indigenously built Pollution Control Vessel (Samudra Pratap) was launched on 29th August 2024 in Goa.
About Samudra Pratap Pollution Control Vessel

About | 1. Samudra Pratap’ is the first indigenously developed Pollution Control Vessel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). 2. The vessel is built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard. 3. This is the first instance where these types of vessels are being designed and built indigenously in India. |
Objective | The vessel is designed to control and manage pollution, specifically targeting oil spillage along the country’s sea coast. |
Features | 1. It is equipped with specialized equipment for the containment, recovery, separation, and dispersal of oil and other pollutants. 2. The vessel has a length of 114.5 meters, a breadth of 16.5 meters, and a displacement of 4170 tons. 3. It is designed and constructed entirely in-house by Goa Shipyard Ltd to meet the specific operational requirements of the Indian Coast Guard. 4. The ship has a crew complement of 24 officers and 115 sailors. 5. It has an oil recovery rate of 300 tonnes per hour, and a storage capacity of 300 tonnes in onboard tanks, which can be extended to 1,000 tonnes using inflatable barges. |
