News: SC uses its extraordinary powers under Article 142 to facilitate education of a student from SC community, who missed the admission to the IIT Dhanbad due to his inability to pay the fees on time.
1. Article 142 empowers the Supreme Court of India to pass any order or decree necessary for doing complete justice in any matter or case pending before it. Such an order or decree shall be enforceable throughout the territory of India.
2. Art 142 allows the Supreme Court to exercise executive and legislative functions in certain situations.
3. It reinforces Supreme Court’s role as guardian of the constitution by enabling it to intervene in matters of public interest, human rights, constitutional values, and fundamental rights.
