Scooters, bikes used as earth excavators in Mizoram: CAG
- A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report has found anomalies in the implementation of Border Area Development Programme (BADP) from 2012-2017 along Mizoram’s border with Myanmar.
- Border Area Development Programme (BADP) aims to meet the special development needs of the people living in remote and inaccessible areas situated near the international border and provide essential infrastructure in the border areas. It is implemented by the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, through the State Governments.
- The BADP was started in the year 1986-87 for balanced development of border areas of States bordering Pakistan. Later it was extended to all the land borders.
- The states covered under BADP are a) Arunachal Pradesh, b) Assam, c) Bihar, d) Gujarat, e) Himachal Pradesh, f) Jammu & Kashmir, g) Manipur, h) Meghalaya, i)Mizoram, j) Nagaland, k)Punjab, l) Rajasthan, m) Sikkim, n) Tripura, 0) Uttar Pradesh, p) Uttarakhand and q) West Bengal.
