Category wise and Rank wise Service Allocation list has been released.
UPSC announced the final result of Civil services exam 2019 in the month of August 2020. A total of 829 candidates recommended for the civil services including IAS, IPS, IFS, and various Group A and B services, against 927 vacancies released by UPSC.
After the announcement of the final results of Civil Service Examination, when success parties and celebrations are over with, the first question that comes into the mind of successful candidates is – ‘what service they are going to get?’
Speculations around the seat allocation ended with the release of SERVICE ALLOCATION list for CSE, 2019 by DoPT. Access the official list by clicking on the link given below:

On what basis, candidates are allocated services?
After going through the list, some of the aspirants might wonder, how come a candidate in the top 10 list has been allocated IFS, instead of IAS and a candidate in the middle of the list i.e. in 300s or 400s has been allocated IAS?
Service allocation is not solely dependent upon the marks obtained in the examination, there are many other factors that play a deciding role in the allocation process, like:
- Order of preference filled by candidates in DAF.
- Category of the Candidate i.e. general, OBC, SC or ST etc.
- Availability of vacancy in the candidate’s category.
- Findings of the Medical Board/Appellate Board with respect to the candidate

Rules regarding the order of preference
- No preference, zero preference and the same order of preference for two or more services is not allowed in any case.
- After submission of the preferences, no change in services indicated by a candidate would be permitted.
