Seven north eastern States lag behind in toilets for schoolgirls

Data analysed from the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2018 report has revealed that an average of 34.96% schools in the 8 north-eastern schools had usable toilets for girls in 2018 as compared to 36. 66% in 2016
Important facts
- With 75.7% schools having usable toilets for girls, Sikkim performed best among the north-eastern states followed by Nagaland with 47% usable toilets.
- Mizoram recorded the highest percentile increase from 25.3% to 34.9% between 2016 and 2018
- Assam recorded the highest decline from 54.2% usable toilets in 2016 to 38.3% in 2018
- Manipur had 9.1% schools having usable toilets for girls, followed by Meghalaya (8.6%), Arunachal Pradesh (7.6%) and Tripura (7.3%).
- The national average of schools with usable toilets for girls is 66.4% in 2018
