1. The Solar Energy Corporation of India is a central public sector enterprise that aims to promote and implement solar energy and other renewable energy projects in India.
2. It was set up in 2011 under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
3. Initially, it was set up as a not-for-profit company but later converted into a commercial company in 2015.
4. Its key functions include facilitating the National Solar Mission, promoting rooftop solar systems, developing financing models like Viability Gap Funding, setting up of solar parks.
5. SECI has played an instrumental role in solar park projects like Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Park, Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park.
