Temple waste recycle project from India receives UN climate action award

Facts:

  • An Indian private project, HelpUsGreen receives UN climate action award for collection of flowers from temples and mosques across and recycles them to produce natural incense, organic fertilizers and biodegradable packaging material.
  • It has been identified for its drive to clean up river Ganga and empower thousands of women by giving them a secure life by engaging them into an eco-friendly recycling works.
  • The project helps in preventing chemical pesticides from entering into the river through temple waste.
  • The HelpUsGreen’s products are handcrafted by women who earlier used to be manual scavengers.
  • It currently works in Uttar Pradesh and plans to expand to Bangladesh, and Nepal.
  • The 15 winning activities fall within one of Momentum for Change’s four focus areas: (1) Planetary Health, (2) Climate Neutral Now, (3) Women for Results, and (4) Financing for Climate Friendly Investment
