Focus-The 2021 report examines child, adolescent and caregiver mental health and the impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health in children and Young People.
- It focuses on risks and protective factors at critical moments in the life course.
- It looks into the social determinants that shape mental health and well-being.
Key findings of the report:
For young people(15-24 age):
- Around 14% of young people in India reported often feeling depressed or having little interest in doing things.
- South Asia had the highest numbers of adolescents with mental disorders.
- Only 41% of young people were willing to get support for mental health problems compared to average of 83%.
- An estimated 13% of adolescents aged 10–19 is estimated to live with a diagnosed mental disorder.
For children:
- Children have not only been living an emotional tragedy, many are also at a higher risk of neglect and abuse.
- At least 50 million children in India were affected with mental health issues before COVID; 80 to 90% have not sought support.
- Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15- to 19-year-olds.
