News: UNDP will partner with NITI Aayog as India is crucial to the successful attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
1. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): They are a set of 17 goals that were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, with the idea of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
2. Some of these goals include no poverty, quality education, affordable and clean energy and reduced inequalities.
3. Voluntary National Review (VNR): It is a mechanism through which countries assess and present their progress in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.
4. It facilitates countries to share their experiences, including successes, challenges, and lessons learnt, to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals.
5. SDG India Index: It is a tool to measure the progress made by States and UTs in attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
6. This index is released by the NITI Aayog and computes goal-wise scores on the 16 SDGs for each state and UT.
