About Prelims CSAT Paper and Marking Scheme
The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is the second paper of the Preliminary Examination of the UPSC Civil Services Exam. It is designed to assess the candidates’ abilities in certain skills, such as comprehension, logical reasoning, and decision-making. Here’s the marking scheme for the CSAT paper:
- Total Marks: The CSAT paper is of 200 marks.
- Number of Questions: There are a total of 80 questions in the CSAT paper.
- Marks per Question: Each question carries 2.5 marks.
- Negative Marking: There is negative marking in the CSAT paper. For each wrong answer, one-third (0.83) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. However, if a candidate leaves a question blank, i.e., he does not answer it at all, there will be no deduction for that question.
- Qualifying Nature: The CSAT paper is of qualifying nature. Candidates need to score a minimum of 33%, or approximately 67 marks out of 200, to qualify. The marks obtained in this paper are not counted for determining the order of merit for the Main Examination or the final selection.
