Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is the phrase that finds its origin in the Maha Upanishad, essentially meaning “the world is family”.

Importance in Indian Foreign Policy

It has been used to broadly convey India’s ideal and liberal concept of global norms, themes of globalization, or global commons.

NAM: India sought to ensure peace in the world by not aligning with any of the blocs.

IPR Rights: India is fighting for open sharing of knowledge rather than exclusive monopolization and profiteering.

Vaccine diplomacy: India openly donated vaccines to all small and big countries around the globe.

International aid: India provides relief packages to other countries promptly in times of natural calamities eg Relief package to Nepal during the earthquake.

India Peace Keeping Forces: India sends its forces to ensure peace wherever the UN sanctions its requirement.

Thus, India not only advocates, but also follows in the footsteps of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
