Wholesale Price Index (WPI)

Wholesale price index is an index of inflation which is used to monitor the change in cost of commodities at wholesale level.

It captures price changes at the factory/wholesale level rather than the final consumer.

It is a pure commodity index and does not involve services.

This inflation rate is often known as headline inflation.

WPI is released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
