News: Team India secured 10th position at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai 2026, winning 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medal for Excellence.
About WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 and India’s Position
- The WorldSkills Competition is the world’s biggest international skills competition, bringing together young people, industry, education and government leaders from around the world to advance Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
- Frequency: It is held every two years.
- 2026 Host: It is hosted in Shanghai, China.
- It was held from 23 to 25 September at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai.
- Skills range: It ranges from Robotics, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity to Aircraft Maintenance, Cooking, and Welding.
- India’s Participation in 2026 edition:
- India’s participation at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 was coordinated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
- It is supported from Sector Skill Councils, industry partners, training institutions, technical experts and other stakeholders.
- India is represented by its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors, showcasing their talent and skills across 63 different disciplines.
- This year, India debuted in 11 new and emerging skill categories, including Dental Prosthetics, Digital Interactive Media Design, Intelligent Security Technology, Landscape Gardening, Optoelectronic Technology, Retail Sales, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Industrial Mechanics, Software Testing, Heavy Vehicle Technology and Aircraft Maintenance.
- Position: Team India secured 10th position at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, Shanghai 2026.
- Medals: They won 6 Silver Medals and 20 Medal for Excellence.
- Winners of silver medals are:
- Smriti Nambiar in Bakery;
- Mohammed Salam in Dental Prosthetics;
- Kovid Ajay Gangrade in Digital Interactive Media Design;
- Parth Vohra in Industrial Design Technology;
- Mehrunissa Begum in Logistics and Freight Forwarding; and
- Saniya Joshi in Retail Sales.
- India also secured 20 Medal for Excellence across technical, industrial, digital, creative and service skills.
- Smriti Nambiar, Silver Medallist in Bakery, was recognised as Best of Nation for India.
- India’s participation at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 was coordinated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
