News: The ninth edition of the Laver Cup was held at the O2 Arena in London, where Team Europe defeated Team World 13–5 to reclaim the trophy.

  • Th Laver Cup is an annual man’s team tennis tournament.
  • It features two teams, with six players representing Europe and six players representing the rest of the world.
  • Origin: The idea was developed by Roger Federer and his business partner Tony Godsick in 2014.
    • Their management company, Team 8, organised the first edition in Prague in 2017.
    • 2026 Edition: The ninth edition of the Laver Cup was held from 25 to 27 September 2026 at the O2 Arena in London.
  • Inspired By: It was inspired by the Ryder Cup in golf.
  • Naming: It was named after Rod Laver, an Australian tennis player.
    • He was the  only player to complete the calendar-year Grand Slam twice, in 1962 and 1969.
  • Host: The host location alternates between Europe and other parts of the world.
  • Key Features:
    • Team Structure: The tournament features two teams, Team Europe and Team World, each consisting of six players.
      • The top three players from each region are selected based on Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, while the captains choose the remaining three players.
    • The teams are led by captains.
    • Match Format: The competition runs for three days, with three singles matches and one doubles match scheduled each day.
      • Matches are played in the best-of-three-sets format.
    • Scoring System: Matches on Day 1 are worth 1 point, Day 2 are worth 2 points, and Day 3 are worth 3 points.
    • Winning Criteria: The first team to reach 13 points wins the tournament.
