Cryogenics is the branch of physics and engineering that studies the behavior of materials and systems at extremely low temperatures, typically below -150°C (-238°F) or 123K (Kelvin). This field focuses on understanding how these low temperatures affect various substances and their properties and developing methods to produce, maintain, and apply such low temperatures in practical applications. While refrigeration involves cooling materials to temperatures below the freezing point of water (0°C or 273K), cryogenics focuses on much lower temperatures beyond what refrigeration typically achieves.
