What is the UPSC Cadre Allocation Process?
A cadre is essentially a state or a group of states/Union Territories to which All-India Services officials are assigned.
The allocation of cadres is a meticulous process that harmonizes the aspirations of the candidates with the needs of the service. It involves consideration of several factors, like:
- The rank a candidate secures in the CSE,
- Their preferences filled in DAF,
- The reservation policy in place,
- the availability of vacancies in each cadre.
The Department of Personnel & Training oversees this complex process, ensuring a fair and transparent distribution of talent across the country.
The Cadre Allocation Policy (CAP) was modified in 2017 and had another modification in 2019, when the state cadre of “Jammu & Kashmir” was eliminated
