Sikkim gets 1st airport; Pakyong AAI’s first Greenfield in India

• Sikkim gets its first airport at Pakyong that will help boost  industry and tourism in the region.
• Spice Jet will launch the first commercial flight to Pakyong from Kolkata
• This is Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) first Greenfield airport in the country.

AP, Odisha & Madhya Pradesh Bag Award of Three Best Performing States in Ease of Living Index

• Andhra Pradesh has topped in States in terms of “Ease of Living Index”
• Ease of Living Index is an initiative of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
• Ministry will help the cities, to assess their liveability with national and global benchmarks.
• Ease of Living framework comprised four pillars namely Institutional, Social, Economic and Physical.
• The index is in line with SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) 11, to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

4th India International Science Festival (IISF) to be inaugurated by President of India

• The 4^th edition of IISF will be inaugurated by President in Lucknow on October 6, 2018
• Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences in association with Vijnana Bharti or VIBHA is organising event
• IISF encourages young children towards science field and promote the network for propagation of science.
• Theme of IISF 2018 is “Science for Transformation”
• A National start-up entrepreneurship summit and Student Science Village will be organized
• The Science Village program is linked with the Pradhan Mantri Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana
• The first and second IISF were held in New Delhi and the third in Chennai.

Paryatan Parv-Mini Bharat Parv to be organized in Mumbai

• Objective of Paryatan Parv is drawing focus on the benefits of tourism and showcase the cultural diversity of the country
• Ministry of Tourism is celebrating Paryatan Parv throughout the country
• The three components of Paryatan Parv are Dekho Apna Desh (to encourage Indians to visit their own country) , Tourism for All (Tourism Events across all States in the country to be organized) and Tourism & Governance (Interactive Sessions & Workshops with Stakeholders on varied themes).
• The event of Mumbai will showcase 100 painting entries received as part of “My India-Clean India”.

Folk Dances being staged in Mumbai: Bihu (Assam), Bail Pola (Maharashtra), Singhi Chham (Sikkim), Garba(Gujarat), Kalbelia (Rajasthan), Lavni (Maharashtra), Cheraw-Bamboo Dance (Mizoram) and Karakattam (Tamil Nadu).

Maldives Election:

• Joint opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has won the presidential election in Maldives.
• He defeated the current President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen.
• He belongs to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
• Maldives has a presidential system where the term of the president is fixed.
• This was the third multi-party contest since the Maldives transitioned to a democracy in 2008.
