Why in the News?
The Defence Ministry has recently signed a ₹200 crore contract with Big Bang Boom Solutions Private Ltd. (BBBS) for anti-drone systems under the iDEX initiative.
About the BBBS’s anti-drone systems
BBBS’s Vajra Sentinel System is a state-of-the-art solution to spot, track, and stop drones over long distances.
Features:
a. It uses passive RF sensor technology to avoid false alarms, and its sensor-jammer combo meets tough military durability and reliability standards.
b. The system’s advanced sensor, powered by AI and computer vision, accurately detects, classifies, and locates drones.
c. It also autonomously deploys countermeasures like signal jamming based on a sophisticated decision-making matrix.
About Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative
Launched by– Government of India in 2018.
Funding– It is funded and managed by the Defence Innovation Organization(DIO).
Aim- It primarily aims at creation of an ecosystem to foster innovation and technology development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging Industries including MSMEs, start-ups among others.
It funds MSMEs, startups, innovators, R&D institutes, and academia for research and development.
