Recently, The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal stated that the development of the drone ecosystem and the deployment of drones in villages across the nation align with ‘NAMO Drone Didi’ initiative, which aims to empower women in the agriculture sector.

AboutThe NAMO Drone Didi scheme is a government initiative to modernizing Indian agriculture through drone technology.
AimTo modernize agriculture, improve crop yields, and reduce labor costs while empowering rural women through new skills and job opportunities in drone technology.
Objectives1. Empower Women: Train and equip women from SHGs to operate and manage drones for agricultural tasks.
2. Enhance Productivity: Use drones for precision farming, nutrient application, and crop monitoring.
3. Promote Technology: Integrate drone technology into everyday agricultural practices.
4. Create Jobs: Generate employment for rural women as drone pilots, mechanics, and in drone manufacturing.
5. Support Self-Reliance: Reduce dependence on imported fertilizers and support the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Components1. Drone Distribution: Provide drones to 15,000 women SHGs for rental to local farmers.
2. Training: Offer training for women in SHGs on drone operation and maintenance.
3. Support Systems: Establish maintenance and repair support for drones.
4. Integration: Incorporate drone technology into traditional farming practices.
5. Job Creation: Develop job roles related to drone technology in agriculture.
