News– The Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued its first Purple Notice through Interpol.

About Purple Notice
- It is one of the eight types of notices issued by INTERPOL.
- Purpose: To share details with member countries about the modus operandi, tools, devices, and concealment techniques employed by criminals.
- Focus: Unlike Red Notices and other alerts that identify specific individuals, Purple Notices highlight criminal practices and methods that can endanger public safety.
- Other types of INTERPOL Notices include Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, Green, Orange, and Silver (pilot phase).
About Interpol
- Full Form: International Criminal Police Organization (commonly known as Interpol).
- It is world’s largest international police cooperation organization founded in 1923.
- Interpol is not a UN body. However, since 1996 it has held the status of a Permanent Observer at the United Nations, giving it a special role in international cooperation.
- Members: 196 countries.
- Function: Facilitates cross-border police cooperation and assists in tackling international crime.
- Decision-making: In the General Assembly, each member country is represented; decisions are taken by a simple majority.
- Headquarters: Lyon, France.
