News: The National Statistics Office released Energy Statistics India 2026, presenting updated data on reserves, production, consumption, trade, and energy sector trends.

  • Key Findings
    • Growth in Energy Supply: Total Primary Energy Supply grew by 2.95% to 9,32,816 KToE in FY 2024-25.
    • Renewable Energy Potential: Renewable energy potential reached 47,04,043 MW, with solar contributing around 71%.
    • More than 70% of renewable potential is concentrated in six states, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.
    • Installed Capacity Expansion: Renewable capacity increased from 90,134 MW in 2016 to 2,29,346 MW in 2025 with 10.93% CAGR.
    • Rise in Renewable Electricity Generation: Electricity generation from renewables increased from 1,89,314 GWh to 4,16,823 GWh.
    • Increase in Per Capita Consumption Per capita energy consumption rose from 15,296 to 18,096 megajoules per person.
    • Improved Efficiency Transmission and distribution losses reduced from about 22% to 17%.
    • Dominance of Coal and Rising Demand Coal supply increased to 5,52,315 KToE, and Total Final Consumption (TFC) over 30% to 6,08,578 KToE, along with a rise in credit flow to ₹10,325 crore.
