About Dudhwa Tiger Reserve
- Location: It is located on the Indo-Nepal border in Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh in the Terai region.
- Establishment: It was established as a Tiger Reserve in 1988 under Project Tiger.
- Constituent areas: It comprises Dudhwa National Park, Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Topography: It is a typical Tarai-Bhabar habitat of the upper Gangetic plains biogeographic province.
- Rivers: The reserve is drained by the Sharda (near Kishanpur), Geruwa (through Katarniaghat), and Suheli and Mohana streams (in Dudhwa National Park), all tributaries of the Ghagra River.
- Vegetation: It has North Indian Moist Deciduous vegetation with dominant Sal forests and associated species like Terminalia alata, Lagerstroemia parviflora, and Adina cordifolia.
- Fauna: It includes tiger, leopard, swamp deer, rhinoceros, chital, hog deer, barking deer, sambar, wild boar, and ratel.
- It has about 400 bird species such as florican and black-necked stork.
- It is a biodiversity hotspot with interlinked food chains and ranked 4th in All-India Tiger Census 2022 with about 135 tigers and 180 butterfly species.
