News: Recently, the cabinet approved the investment Proposal for the construction of the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Anjaw District of Arunachal Pradesh.
About Lohit River

- About: It is a perennial river which flows through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- Origin: It originates in the Zayal Chu range in eastern Tibet.
- Course of river: It flows through Arunachal Pradesh, passing across the Mishmi Hills.
- It finally enters Assam, where it joins the Brahmaputra River near Sadiya.
- Its main source is snowmelt from the Himalayan glaciers and other small streams.
- Tributaries: Rivers Dau, Dalai and Tidding are its major tributaries on the right bank and the river Lang is the major tributary on the left bank.
- Catchment area: The catchment area of the river, including the Tibet region, is 29,487 sq km.
- The catchment area experiences mostly a tropical wet season and supports dense mixed forest.
- Hydel Project on river: Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project has been developed on the Lohit River in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh.
