  • MAHA (Missions for Advancement in High-impact Areas) Water Mission is a national programme that accelerates innovation in the water sector by linking research, technology development, validation, and field deployment.
  • Nodal Ministry: The Ministry of Jal Shakti is the nodal ministry for the mission.
  • Organisations involved:
    • Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF): It expands research funding opportunities and supports mission-oriented innovation.
    • Department of Space/ISRO: It contributes satellite technologies and geospatial applications for water resource mapping and assessment.
  • Objectives: The mission aims to support innovations from laboratory research to field deployment and generate scalable and localised solutions for long-term water security.
  • Funding: The mission has a projected outlay of ₹200 crore over five years, jointly contributed by ANRF and the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • Target beneficiaries: The programme supports universities, national laboratories, research organisations, startups, MSMEs, and industry partners.
  • Support: Selected multidisciplinary consortia can receive up to ₹20 crore for technology development, field assessment, validation, and deployment.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Water Resource Assessment and Sustainable Management: It promotes sustainable management of water resources.
    • Drinking Water: It supports solutions related to drinking water.
    • Water Quality and Ecological Health: It focuses on improving water quality and ecological health.

    • Climate Resilience and Adaptation: It supports solutions for climate resilience and adaptation.
