News: India and Zimbabwe held the first meeting of their Joint Defence Committee in New Delhi on June 04, 2026 and discussed expanding defence cooperation.
Key Facts About Zimbabwe

- Location: Zimbabwe is a landlocked nation in Southern Africa, located between the Limpopo River to the south and the Zambezi River to the north.
- Bordered by: Zimbabwe shares boundaries with 4 countries –
- South Africa in the south, Zambia in the north, Botswana in the west, and Mozambique in the east and north-east.
- Capital: Harare serves as the capital city of Zimbabwe.
- Climate: Despite being located within the tropical zone, Zimbabwe experiences subtropical weather because of its relatively high elevation.
- Physical Landscape: Much of the country consists of an elevated plateau region known as the Highveld, which forms an important grassland area.
- Distinct Geographic Regions: Parts of the country extend into the Kalahari Desert, while the Great Dyke contains valuable deposits of platinum, chromium, and other minerals.
- Highest Elevation: Mount Nyangani (2,592 metres) is the highest point in the country.
- Water Bodies: Important rivers include the Zambezi, Limpopo, Sabi, and Runde.
- It also includes Lake Kariba along the Zambia border.
- Mineral Wealth: It has rich reserves of coal, chromium ore, vanadium, lithium, tin, and platinum.
- Currency: Zimbabwe uses a multi-currency framework, and since April 2024 the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency has been used along with the US Dollar (USD).
