News: The National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA), knowledge partner to the Department of Land Resources, organised the second national consultation on draft watershed management guidelines under the World Bank-supported REWARD Programme.
About the REWARD Program

- Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) program is a Watershed development program.
- Nodal Ministry: The nodal ministry for the Program is the Ministry of Rural Development.
- It is being implemented by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), assisted by the World Bank.
- Aim: The program aims to introduce modern watershed practices in the Department of Land Resources and in the States of Karnataka and Odisha.
- Objective: Its objective is to strengthen the capacities of National and State institutions to adopt improved watershed management for increasing farmers’ resilience and supporting value chains in selected watersheds of participating States.
- Duration of the programme: It is being implemented from 2021 to 2026 in the States of Karnataka and Odisha.
- Key focus areas of REWARD: The program focuses on two important result areas:
- Strengthen institutions and supportive policy for watershed development
- Science-based watershed development for climate resilience and enhanced livelihoods
- Scope of program: At the central level, the scope of the REWARD program covers management, monitoring, communication and knowledge sharing functions by DoLR.
- Funding: It works on a financial instrument called “PforR” (Program for Results), which means the World Bank will reimburse the loan amount against the achievement of Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs).
- The funding pattern is 70:30, between the World Bank and the States, and it is 50:50 between the World Bank and the DoLR.
- Expected Outcomes: It will help to increase the farm productivity and income levels of the watershed community through the application of modern and scientific practices in the field of watershed development.
