Key Facts About Palau
- Location: It is located in the western Pacific Ocean.
- Boundaries: It shares maritime borders with the Federated States of Micronesia, Indonesia, Philippines and with the international waters.
- It has about 340 coral and volcanic islands located on the Kyushu-Palau Ridge.
- Capital: Melekeok
- Geography:
- Most of the islands are small low-lying coral islands, ringed by barrier reefs.
- Only the mountainous Babulthuap island is volcanic in origin. It is mainly composed of andesite
- Most Populated islands: Its major populated islands are Babelthuap (Babeldaob), Koror, Malakal, Arakabesan, and Peleliu.
- Other Inhabited Islands: The inhabited coral islands outside Palau’s main reef system are built on volcanic foundations. They include the Kayangel Islands, and Angaur.
